Happy Birthday Joshua!

Joshua turned 6 this month! I cannot believe he is getting so big, but he is absolutely growing up fast. His birthday was on a Wednesday this year so he brought cupcakes to school and we had a small celebration at home in the evening. He had a birthday party the following Saturday.

This has been a huge year for Joshua. I was worried about him starting kindergarten, but it is going super well and he absolutely loves it. He is a little reserved, but also super social and loves being with kids all day. He is very interested in words and learning to read and also has retained his interests of insects and nature and building. He loves playing most sports, but especially basketball, which is his favorite thing to do at recess. He loves being outside. He may be an outdoorsman in the future since he loves fishing so far and is extremely interested in either fishing or hunting and then eating what he has fished/hunted. He asks for this frequently, but so far this year we have only done catch-and-release fishing, though Jason plans to move up to eating the fish next year. He has learned so much and can make much more advanced connections now compared to last year. He asks really insightful questions about God. He is very interested in process. He doesn't play with toys that often. Sometimes he does and he likes cars and super heroes and Legos, but he is more likely to go outside. And he often thinks up elaborate projects he wants to do. Like the other day he said, "Mom can we get some wheat and make bread out of it". We haven't done that one yet. I am not sure where to get wheat or how to grind it into flour. But these are the types of ideas he has. He got a science kit for his birthday and he likes it and he likes planning our projects. He'll say, "Mom can we do a volcano with blue and red". He has very specific ideas of what he wants to do. He is 44.5 inches tall (unfortunately far from 48 still, which is how tall you have to be to do the water slides at our indoor pool) and 41 lbs, which means he weighs enough to ride in a booster seat now, though I haven't made that switch yet. His huge smile lights up our lives and we are so thrilled to have him in our family!
